Disney Parks Book Tag & the Awesome Blogger Award [ #4 ]

Hiya bookish people!

How are you guys? I feel like I don’t ask you guys that enough.

I was tagged by my Eczema SisterTM, Alexandra @ Reading by Starlight to do this amazing book tag which she created! Which is amazing! She is amazing! Please go and give her blog all the appreciation you can muster because Alexandra is one of the most supportive and sweet bloggers you will ever have ( even if me removing my eyebrow reminded her of Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging *she says nicely, as a joke, not trying to be mean but it may read like that so here she is writing an action within asterix’s out of paranoia of sounding rude* )

I was then later tagged by the beautiful Daria @ Bookaholic’s Therapy. Daria is one of the loveliest bloggers you will ever meet, and I hope that everyone goes immediately to read her posts because I always enjoy them!

As always lovelies, the graphics and book covers link back to the Goodreads page or review for that title.

The Rules :

  • Mention the creator of the tag and link back to original post [Alexandra @ Reading by Starlight]
  • Thank the blogger who tagged you

  • Feel free to copy the heading graphics

“Not only is it a seriously immersive adventure though the rivers of the world [also I’m low key screaming because we’re getting a movie] but I love the puny tongue-in-cheek humor of the skippers”
      –     Alexandra

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn honestly paved the way for all of the on-boat adventure books that followed. Books like Swallows and Amazons, or other similar titles.

“Yo Ho, Yo Ho, a pirates life for me! Pirates of the Caribbean is a staple at any Disney Park. Did you know it was the ride that actually inspired the films? That’s right, Walt Disney himself oversaw the development of the ride which opened in 1967.”
      –     Alexandra

I was approached by the author on my old blogger site to review this book – and I still love it! Perle, Dejean and the entire plot had me captivated from the very start and I was completely enchanted by this new take on sirens from the start. I am anticipating the release of the next book!

“I am quite literally obsessed with The Haunted Mansion, namely it’s Parisian counterpart Phantom Manor with it’s more intricate, eerie theme. Located in the Western-esuqe Frontierland, Phantom Manor’s narrative centers around the bride herself and tells the story of Melanie Ravenswood who is haunted for all eternity by the menacing Phantom.”
      –     Alexandra

This horror YA had me frozen to my seat with this amazing and eerie plot. Missing memory, a sunken church in a cave and jitterbugs all work together to make the eeriest vibe of all. I found myself unable to put this book down, but please check out my review because I included some photos of the awesome packaging that the ARC came in!

“Knott’s Berry Farm eat your heart out because Disney’s Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is the best mine cart ride. Ever. Set in a seemingly haunted canyon, Thunder Mountain is a thrilling coaster-like ride through a rickety gold mine.”
      –     Alexandra

Not a YA book? I know what you’re thinking: Emma, are you okay?? But I found myself unable to put this book down and was caught up in the amazing struggles as an astronaut is stranded on Mars and forced to find a way to survive and let his team know he is, in fact, still alive. Also I finally understood some of the chemical equations used in this book after two years of High School Chemistry classes – I dropped them last year. Too much maths.

“Ah, Splash Mountain – the best thrill ride in any Disney Park. Hands down. Nothing like a five story drop to ground below to get that heart pumping, am I right? Splash Mountain is a classic log ride though the bayou that features a cast of animatronic critters from The Song of the South. And, isn’t there just something so atmospheric about the Deep South?”
      –     Alexandra

I have to agree with Alexandra on this one. In fact, I didn’t even realise that the Amazing AlexandraTM had read this! I haven’t found anybody who has before and it is just another thing for us to have a strong and amazing friendship over ( along with Midnight Sun, A House of Salt and Sorrows, Twilight in general and eczema ).

“Of all the flagship castles, there’s something to be said about the sprawling simplicity of Cinderella Castle in Walt Disney World Resort. I mean, the lofty spires, the climbing turrets, the ornate trims – the moat? It just screams happily ever after. Also, dinning in Cinderella’s Royal Table is a high priority of mine. “
      –     Alexandra

This was the first book that Bruno ever leant me, my former AFCTL partner on Blogspot, and I read it one night. I’m pretty sure that he thought I lied about reading it when I gave it back the next day but when I was able to prove I had read it, I think it prompted a start to an awesome, albeit short, friendship. In fact, I am currently reading the Webtoon of The Wrath and the Dawn which is still releasing episodes at a rate of roughly four a month.

“No trip to Disneyland’s complete without taking a spin through the whimsy of Alice’s Mad Tea Party. I don’t know about you, but I’m always the one shrieking with laughter, spinning the teacup as fast as it can go and holding on for dear life. [Would not recommend riding after a Dole Whip]. “
      –     Alexandra

Well, Alice in Wonderland is really the only possible option here, isn’t it? I remember that my grandparents gave me an amazing sophisticated picture book called ‘Princess Alyss Hart’ and it had amazing fold out letters, and even custom playing cards. Unfortunately because I was so young I lost a lot of the cards, but I am lucky to still have the book! If you ever find a copy, I highly advise you get it!

“Okay, so the Matterhorn isn’t as cool as Thunder Mountain but it’s snow-capped aesthetic and alpine vibe is seriously atmospheric. As you hurtle though snowy chutes and jagged edges, you might even glimpse the Abominable Snowman himself.”
      –     Alexandra

The journey that Gray and Lia Mara have to take together was definitely a journey, more than just physically. They also had to trek through their developing companionship, and the journey to the specific kingdom of Syhl Shallow. You can read my review for it here.

“Ignoring that fact that It’s a Small World is the most annoying song ever written [try getting that one out of your head], I can’t fault it’s child-like celebration of world peace and unity. It’s whimsical and iconic as you board a boat and traipse across the globe. This might make me seem like a Basic White Girl™, but I’ve always been fascinated by French folklore and culture.”
      –     Alexandra

This magical retelling of Cinderella from the perspective of one of Ella’s ‘evil’ stepsisters was an amazing new perspective that I loved, and while it is certainly a new take that I haven’t seen before, I don’t think that Disney’s or Grimm’s original stepsisters can be justified similarly. Maybe Anastasia, in Cinderella 2. Maybe.

“As far as roller-coasters go, you can’t beat the thrilling breathlessness of racing through the cosmos in Space Mountain. The attention the detail – the futuristic space station vibe, the swirling strobes and the nebulae as you hurtle through the void of space makes Space Mountain a truly immersive, out-of-this-world experience.”
      –     Alexandra

I need Aurora Burning five million zillion hours ago! Okay, maybe not that drastic, but you catch my drift. This book followed a fun and mischievous band of misfits in a trip through space . . . and it was definitely fast paced! I wrote a review for this, if you want to check it out.

🌷 do you write ( stories / poems ) ?🌷

I thought about it, and I do have a solid idea for a YA sci-fi pandemic trilogy ( I actually came up with the idea two years ago in bio class, not during our own pandemic ). It was going to be titled ‘Population Steady’, and the following titles would be ‘Population Overload’ and ‘Population Wipeout’. I don’t know if I ever will write it though. I think I’d rather go into publishing other people’s books rather than my own.

🌷 who’s a character you really relate to? 🌷

I don’t really personally find myself in any specific character, whether it be a movie, show or book. I guess I find a little bit of myself in every book that I read, and every character that I love. Although then I have to ask the question about what that says about me.

🌷 do you enjoy old movies? 🌷

I do! My biggest problem however is that I can never quite hear them, but if I watch them with my dad it’s okay – we both put it up ridiculously loud!

🌷 what’s a song that makes you cry? 🌷

🌷 how often do you buy books? 🌷

Not often enough, that’s for sure! I mean, maybe once every two months or so? Maybe less if I have been adding heaps of books to my Kindle instead.

🌷 do you prefer physical shopping or online shopping? 🌷

In theory I really prefer physical shopping ( especially when it comes to going to Kmart at 10pm with my best friend in our pajamas ), but I really dislike crowds and the judgement I imagine when shopping. Unfortunately, online shopping for clothes doesn’t work for me.

🌷 what’s your favorite thing about blogging? 🌷

Definitely all the people I have met along the way! Like Daria!

🌷 do you care about blog stats? 🌷

I do if only in the way that I have a spreadsheet to see which types of posts get more interaction. I don’t act on it, and I don’t fixate on it, but I just enjoy being able to see what you guys enjoy reading!

🌷 what’s one thing you learned from blogging? 🌷

Coding in basic HTML, but to be honest I made myself a bunch of templates to keep up with all my posts so I don’t code a lot anymore.

🌷 how do you find time to blog? 🌷

The short answer – I don’t. The long answer – the night time is an additional 8 hours of the day, if you think about it.

🌷 my questions : 🌷

  • What is your favorite Disney movie?
  • Do you have a least favourite book character?
  • Bedtime – a reasonable hour or some early hour of the morning?
  • Fluffy blankets or heaps of cushions?
  • Do you still have any plush toys? ( I do, it’s a whale and his name is Ghoeqphfe, pronounced ‘Jeff’)
  • Do you enjoy DIY and arts + crafts activities?
  • How do you plan your blog posts?
  • Christmas or Halloween?
  • Mugs or Candles?
  • Do you like the How To Train Your Dragon franchise?

Love you my crazy eczema sister! ❤ ❤ ❤ #eczemasistersforlife

I also loved that you included my little tidbits about the rides – that was so sweet of you!

And – I have another book to add to our list of shared obsessions: The Martian! After my brother got me obsessed with the movie I decided to pick up the book and LOVED it. I loved the fierce optimism and the idea of humanity working together. It's such an uplifting, inspiration book and I'm so glad you loved it too. [In fact, I'm slightly embarrassed I didn't use it myself LOL!]

Thank you for participating in my tag! xo

  3. Thank you for the tag! This post was exemplary as always 😉 I’m really interested in reading Stepsister and I started Aurora Rising in late 2019 but ended up DNFing it like 10 pages in because I was really busy… I should definitely pick it up again XD.

    1. You’re very welcome! No pressure to do them but I am looking forward to seeing your answers ( that sounds so subtly aggresive, I’m sorry XD )

  4. Omg you had an Angus, Thongs & Perfect Snogging eyebrow moment? Whilst on the topic did you hear what happened to the author? It’s terrible and I still can’t really believe it. Ooh the Disney tag is interesting 😊 I can’t believe I still haven’t read Wrath & The Dawn but at least I’ve read Stepsister 😅 loved that book!!
Ooh your book series sounds interesting!! I actually had an idea for a fantasy book that could potentially involve a virus but I want the world to have lots of different sections and I just panic 😂 idk, planning is too scary!!
What old movies do you particularly like?

    1. Yes, I did! I’m also still kinda thinking about it – I can’t get my head around it.
Thank you, Alexandra made it 😛
Wrath and the Dawn is currently a Webtoon, too! And Stepsister was so good!
      Planning is way too overwhelming!
War movies, or film noir like mysterys and murders.

      1. That must have been stressful!! I know it’s so horrible. I really couldn’t believe it when I found out.
Yeah I saw the link and checked it out 😊
I’ll have to look into it once I’ve read the book. And I agree, I can’t wait for her next retelling!!
        I agree.
Oh cool 😊 any particular favourites?
