Hiya bookish people!

I’m so sorry for not posting on Monday! Time got away from me and now I’m a post behind, whoops!

Yes, I know this isn’t my normal posting schedule, but I am super duper behind on all my tags at the moment so for the rest of the month, every Wednesday I will be doing two tags. However, I won’t be tagging anyone, just so I don’t overwhelm people with Christmas closing in on us, and I know other bloggers will be getting ready for Blogmas!

Right, let’s get started! Click on the banner to open the tag!

This tag was introduced to me by Sofi @ A Book, a Thought. I have to pick some books, and each round of 3 books I chose to reread, rewrite or (gasp) burn for each of the books. I have gone through and imputed all my read books from Goodreads, and used a random name picker to pick 18 books, as Sofi had. I am using a system of 🔥 for burn, 🖋️ for rewrite and 📖 for reread.

I’ve chosen not to include any Netgalley ARC’s in this tag.

Round #1

🔥 Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews 🔥
I have chosen to burn this book, because not only was the ending of this cringey as, I never really felt the friendship between any of the characters, and on a whole was disappointed in the $22.99 that I spent on it. I didn’t really enjoy the movie, either.

Synopsis:

SYNOPSIS //
Greg Gaines is the last master of high school espionage, able to disappear at will into any social environment. He has only one friend, Earl, and together they spend their time making movies, their own incomprehensible versions of Coppola and Herzog cult classics. Until Greg’s mother forces him to rekindle his childhood friendship with Rachel.
.
Rachel has been diagnosed with leukemia—-cue extreme adolescent awkwardness—-but a parental mandate has been issued and must be obeyed. When Rachel stops treatment, Greg and Earl decide the thing to do is to make a film for her, which turns into the Worst Film Ever Made and becomes a turning point in each of their lives.
.
And all at once Greg must abandon invisibility and stand in the spotlight.

🖋️ The Wicked King by Holly Black 🖋️
Definitely rewrite. Maybe then, I wouldn’t be in constant anguish over my lack of a copy of Queen of Nothing!

Synopsis:

SYNOPSIS //
You must be strong enough to strike and strike and strike again without tiring.
.
The first lesson is to make yourself strong.
.
After the jaw-dropping revelation that Oak is the heir to Faerie, Jude must keep her younger brother safe. To do so, she has bound the wicked king, Cardan, to her, and made herself the power behind the throne.
.
Navigating the constantly shifting political alliances of Faerie would be difficult enough if Cardan were easy to control. But he does everything in his power to humiliate and undermine her even as his fascination with her remains undiminished.
.
When it becomes all too clear that someone close to Jude means to betray her, threatening her own life and the lives of everyone she loves, Jude must uncover the traitor and fight her own complicated feelings for Cardan to maintain control as a mortal in a Faerie world.

📖 The Martian by Andy Weir 📖
I find that I can definitely understand this book better now after taking a chemistry class for a year; especially more than when I first did. I would love to reread this if I got the chance because it was just so funny! And watching Mark suffer through Disco music and shitty sitcoms sounds like a lot of fun!

Synopsis:

SYNOPSIS //
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars.
.
Now, he’s sure he’ll be the first person to die there.
.
After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive.
.
Chances are, though, he won’t have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain-old “human error” are much more likely to kill him first.
.
But Mark isn’t ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills — and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit — he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?

Round #2

🔥 Five Feet Apart by Rachel Lippincott & others 🔥
That. Ending. Was. Cruel. And. My. Heart. Is. Beyond. Repair. This. Book. Can. Burn. With. It.

🌷 Review 🌷

Synopsis:

SYNOPSIS //
Stella Grant likes to be in control—even though her totally out of control lungs have sent her in and out of the hospital most of her life. At this point, what Stella needs to control most is keeping herself away from anyone or anything that might pass along an infection and jeopardize the possibility of a lung transplant. Six feet apart. No exceptions.
.
The only thing Will Newman wants to be in control of is getting out of this hospital. He couldn’t care less about his treatments, or a fancy new clinical drug trial. Soon, he’ll turn eighteen and then he’ll be able to unplug all these machines and actually go see the world, not just its hospitals.
.
Will’s exactly what Stella needs to stay away from. If he so much as breathes on Stella she could lose her spot on the transplant list. Either one of them could die. The only way to stay alive is to stay apart. But suddenly six feet doesn’t feel like safety. It feels like punishment.
.
What if they could steal back just a little bit of the space their broken lungs have stolen from them? Would five feet apart really be so dangerous if it stops their hearts from breaking too?

🖋️ Six Goodbyes We Never Said by Candace Ganger 🖋️
Although I really enjoyed this novel, it was very extreme and had a lot of over representation. I just would have written the side characters with a little more character, and would have toned it down a bit for personal taste. However, the representation did work well in telling the story the author wanted.

🌷 Tour 🌷

Synopsis:

SYNOPSIS //
Two teens meet after tragedy and learn about love, loss, and letting go
.
Naima Rodriguez doesn’t want your patronizing sympathy as she grieves her father, her hero—a fallen Marine. She’ll hate you forever if you ask her to open up and remember him “as he was,” though that’s all her loving family wants her to do in order to manage her complex OCD and GAD. She’d rather everyone back the-eff off while she separates her Lucky Charms marshmallows into six, always six, Ziploc bags, while she avoids friends and people and living the life her father so desperately wanted for her.
.
Dew respectfully requests a little more time to process the sudden loss of his parents. It’s causing an avalanche of secret anxieties, so he counts on his trusty voice recorder to convey the things he can’t otherwise say aloud. He could really use a friend to navigate a life swimming with pain and loss and all the lovely moments in between. And then he meets Naima and everything’s changed—just not in the way he, or she, expects.

📖 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling 📖
What can I say? I’m a potterhead through and through. Given the chance, I would definitely read this again!

Synopsis:
SYNOPSIS //
Harry Potter is leaving Privet Drive for the last time. But as he climbs into the sidecar of Hagrid’s motorbike and they take to the skies, he knows Lord Voldemort and the Death Eaters will not be far behind.
.
The protective charm that has kept him safe until now is broken. But the Dark Lord is breathing fear into everything he loves. And he knows he can’t keep hiding.
.
To stop Voldemort, Harry knows he must find the remaining Horcruxes and destroy them.
.
He will have to face his enemy in one final battle.

Round #3

🔥 A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas 🔥
Burn baby burn! Okay, yes this was cute, but all I did was get annoyed with Nesta rather than sympathise with her, as I felt that with less information I could sympathise with Nesta more since she was more effectively closing herself off. More info made her seem bitchy.

Synopsis:

SYNOPSIS //
Feyre, Rhys, and their close-knit circle of friends are still busy rebuilding the Night Court and the vastly-changed world beyond. But Winter Solstice is finally near, and with it, a hard-earned reprieve.
.
Yet even the festive atmosphere can’t keep the shadows of the past from looming. As Feyre navigates her first Winter Solstice as High Lady, she finds that those dearest to her have more wounds than she anticipated–scars that will have far-reaching impact on the future of their Court.

🖋️ Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by J.K. Rowling 🖋️
I loved this book, and I loved Newt Scammander, but I would only rewrite it as an actual novel rather than a screenplay.

Synopsis:

SYNOPSIS //
When Magizoologist Newt Scamander arrives in New York, he intends his stay to be just a brief stopover. However, when his magical case is misplaced and some of Newt’s fantastic beasts escape, it spells trouble for everyone…
.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them marks the screenwriting debut of J.K. Rowling, author of the beloved and internationally bestselling Harry Potter books. Featuring a cast of remarkable characters, this is epic, adventure-packed storytelling at its very best.

📖 Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas 📖
Finding out more about Celaena Sardothien and her training and SAM was honestly one of the best things I have ever read. Badass is one word to describe it! Especially the story with Rolfe and how it affects the scene between Aelin and Rolfe.

Synopsis:

SYNOPSIS //
Celaena Sardothien is Adarlan’s most feared assassin. As part of the Assassin’s Guild, her allegiance is to her master, Arobynn Hamel, yet Celaena listens to no one and trusts only her fellow killer-for-hire, Sam. In these action-packed novellas – together in one edition for the first time – Celaena embarks on five daring missions. They take her from remote islands to hostile deserts, where she fights to liberate slaves and seeks to avenge the tyrannous. But she is acting against Arobynn’s orders and could suffer an unimaginable punishment for such treachery. Will Celaena ever be truly free? Explore the dark underworld of this kick-ass heroine to find out.

Round #4

🔥 All Eyes on Us by Kit Frick 🔥
This was my first ever blog tour book, and as much as I loved it, I didn’t love it as much as the other two, and therefore falls to the bottom of the list. Sorry!

Synopsis:

SYNOPSIS //
PRIVATE NUMBER: Wouldn’t you look better without a cheater on your arm?
AMANDA: Who is this?
.
The daughter of small town social climbers, Amanda Kelly is deeply invested in her boyfriend, real estate heir Carter Shaw. He’s kind, ambitious, the town golden boy—but he’s far from perfect. Because behind Amanda’s back, Carter is also dating Rosalie.
.
PRIVATE NUMBER: I’m watching you, Sweetheart.
ROSALIE: Who IS this?
.
Rosalie Bell is fighting to remain true to herself and her girlfriend—while concealing her identity from her Christian fundamentalist parents. After years spent in and out of conversion “therapy,” her own safety is her top priority. But maintaining a fake, straight relationship is killing her from the inside.
.
When an anonymous texter ropes Amanda and Rosalie into a bid to take Carter down, the girls become collateral damage—and unlikely allies in a fight to unmask their stalker before Private uproots their lives.
.
PRIVATE NUMBER: You shouldn’t have ignored me. Now look what you made me do…

🖋️ Shadowverse by John-Clement Gallo 🖋️
I personally couldn’t write any better, but a point I made in my review is that I felt that the author needed more experience out of life to write such an in depth novel. That is what I would add if this novel got rewritten.

Synopsis:

SYNOPSIS //
Johnny Sparks longs for a higher purpose, a destiny greater than the ordinary. After an encounter with a mysterious stranger, he and his friends are imbued with incredible powers—at last giving his life meaning.
.
But this dream soon disintegrates once one of the friends is taken by an alien warlord named Titan. In a rescue effort, the remaining group is sent across the galaxy in search of the only possible aid—a legendary, immortal warrior missing for centuries.
.
During the spectacular intergalactic journey, the team must join forces to reclaim their friend and stop a sinister scheme devised against humanity by Titan and his vast empire. The multiverse-spanning, millennia in the making conflict for the soul of reality is set in motion, but even if the group prevails, they risk losing what it means to be human.

📖 Frankly in Love by David Yoon 📖
I really really liked this book, and so I would definitely reread it! Frankly in Love was a heavily troped debut novel – and who can resist a fake dating trope?

Synopsis:
SYNOPSIS //
High school senior Frank Li is a Limbo–his term for Korean-American kids who find themselves caught between their parents’ traditional expectations and their own Southern California upbringing. His parents have one rule when it comes to romance–“Date Korean”–which proves complicated when Frank falls for Brit Means, who is smart, beautiful–and white. Fellow Limbo Joy Song is in a similar predicament, and so they make a pact: they’ll pretend to date each other in order to gain their freedom. Frank thinks it’s the perfect plan, but in the end, Frank and Joy’s fake-dating maneuver leaves him wondering if he ever really understood love–or himself–at all.

Round #5

🔥 Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling 🔥
I mean, what was that redemption ARC? I know! Trash. Now, yes he deserved redemption, but the ARC provided was horrible. “Oh Harry, I borderline abused you for nearly seven years because I loved her!” Blegh!

Synopsis:

SYNOPSIS //
When Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince opens, the war against Voldemort has begun. The Wizarding world has split down the middle, and as the casualties mount, the effects even spill over onto the Muggles. Dumbledore is away from Hogwarts for long periods, and the Order of the Phoenix has suffered grievous losses. And yet, as in all wars, life goes on.
.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione, having passed their O.W.L. level exams, start on their specialist N.E.W.T. courses. Sixth-year students learn to Apparate, losing a few eyebrows in the process. Teenagers flirt and fight and fall in love. Harry becomes captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team, while Draco Malfoy pursues his own dark ends. And classes are as fascinating and confounding as ever, as Harry receives some extraordinary help in Potions from the mysterious Half-Blood Prince.
.
Most importantly, Dumbledore and Harry work together to uncover the full and complex story of a boy once named Tom Riddle—the boy who became Lord Voldemort. Like Harry, he was the son of one Muggle-born and one Wizarding parent, raised unloved, and a speaker of Parseltongue. But the similarities end there, as the teenaged Riddle became deeply interested in the Dark objects known as Horcruxes: objects in which a wizard can hide part of his soul, if he dares splinter that soul through murder.
.
Harry must use all the tools at his disposal to draw a final secret out of one of Riddle’s teachers, the sly Potions professor Horace Slughorn. Finally Harry and Dumbledore hold the key to the Dark Lord’s weaknesses… until a shocking reversal exposes Dumbledore’s own vulnerabilities, and casts Harry’s—and Hogwarts’s—future in shadow.

🖋️ Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell 🖋️
Rewrite Fangirl, Emma, what are you thinking!?!? I know, I know, it’s crazy. But I found that there were some scenes where Cath was a little too annoying for me. I would only rewrite those parts.

Synopsis:

SYNOPSIS //
Cath is a Simon Snow fan.
.
Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan..
.
But for Cath, being a fan is her life—and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving. Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.
.
Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to.
.
Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words… And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.
.
For Cath, the question is: Can she do this? Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? Writing her own stories?
.
And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?

📖 A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas 📖
I mean, it says it in the about section on the sidebar, people. I am a Sarah J. Maas fanatic. What else did you expect?

Synopsis:
SYNOPSIS //
Feyre’s survival rests upon her ability to hunt and kill – the forest where she lives is a cold, bleak place in the long winter months. So when she spots a deer in the forest being pursued by a wolf, she cannot resist fighting it for the flesh. But to do so, she must kill the predator and killing something so precious comes at a price …
.
Dragged to a magical kingdom for the murder of a faerie, Feyre discovers that her captor, his face obscured by a jewelled mask, is hiding far more than his piercing green eyes would suggest. Feyre’s presence at the court is closely guarded, and as she begins to learn why, her feelings for him turn from hostility to passion and the faerie lands become an even more dangerous place. Feyre must fight to break an ancient curse, or she will lose him forever.

Round #6

🔥 Allegiant by Veronica Roth 🔥
The ending sucked and it was a horrible conclusion to the series. Sorry! Bye.

Synopsis:

SYNOPSIS //
The faction-based society that Tris Prior once believed in is shattered – fractured by violence and power struggles and scarred by loss and betrayal. So when offered a chance to explore the world past the limits she’s known, Tris is ready. Perhaps beyond the fence, she and Tobias will find a simple new life together, free from complicated lies, tangled loyalties, and painful memories.
.
But Tris’s new reality is even more alarming than the one she left behind. Old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningliess. Explosive new truths change the hearts of those she loves. And once again, Tris must battle to comprehend to complexities of human nature – and of herself – while facing impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice, and love.

🖋️ War Storm by Victoria Aveyard 🖋️
More chaos! There were so many possibilities for Victoria Aveyard to hurt us and kill a character, but she didn’t. I kind of wish she had.

Synopsis:

SYNOPSIS //
Mare Barrow learned this all too well when Cal’s betrayal nearly destroyed her. Now determined to protect her heart—and secure freedom for Reds and newbloods like her—Mare resolves to overthrow the kingdom of Norta once and for all… starting with the crown on Maven’s head.
.
But no battle is won alone, and before the Reds may rise as one, Mare must side with the boy who broke her heart in order to defeat the boy who almost broke her. Cal’s powerful Silver allies, alongside Mare and the Scarlet Guard, prove a formidable force. But Maven is driven by an obsession so deep, he will stop at nothing to have Mare as his own again, even if it means demolishing everything—and everyone—in his path.
.
War is coming, and all Mare has fought for hangs in the balance. Will victory be enough to topple the Silver kingdoms? Or will the little lightning girl be forever silenced?

📖 Aurora Rising by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kauffman 📖
I need the next book in the Aurora Cycle please! What else would provide me with the perfect opportunity to reread Aurora Rising?

Synopsis:
SYNOPSIS //
The year is 2380, and the graduating cadets of Aurora Academy are being assigned their first missions. Star pupil Tyler Jones is ready to recruit the squad of his dreams, but his own boneheaded heroism sees him stuck with the dregs nobody else in the Academy would touch…
.
A cocky diplomat with a black belt in sarcasm
A sociopath scientist with a fondness for shooting her bunkmates
A smart-ass techwiz with the galaxy’s biggest chip on his shoulder
An alien warrior with anger management issues
A tomboy pilot who’s totally not into him, in case you were wondering
.
And Ty’s squad isn’t even his biggest problem—that’d be Aurora Jie-Lin O’Malley, the girl he’s just rescued from interdimensional space.
.
Trapped in cryo-sleep for two centuries, Auri is a girl out of time and out of her depth. But she could be the catalyst that starts a war millions of years in the making, and Tyler’s squad of losers, discipline-cases and misfits might just be the last hope for the entire galaxy.

I was tagged by the awesome Sophie @ Sophie’s Corner. Considering I did the waffle tag earlier, this is the perfect tag for me to do!

I didn’t include the covers and synopsis in this one, I am still playing with my WP codes and figuring my way around. Your patience has been amazing!

The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdeih. Surprisingly, this is the first book that Bruno ever lent to me, and I read it one night. I gave it back to him the next day, but I think at first he didn’t believe I actually read it.

Would I even be me if I didn’t say Kaz Brekker? He steals my heart every single time that I read Six of Crows.

The Secret Garden. I don’t normally talk about classic novels on here, but this is one that I have always loved!

Kingdom of Ash. I think that I’m in a permanent book hangover from this one. Permanent.

Hmmm. Probably Red Queen, since I love the series so much, and to reread the beginning of the series is quite indulgent for me.

Snape. No, I don’t like him as a character, his motives, and I definitely hate his character arc, but I would be lying to myself if I didn’t add him in here.

Queen of Air and Darkness, I never really did see what was coming with every new chapter.

Jude and Cardan, even though I love them now!

I’m gonna say Bella Swan in New Moon, I found her really difficult to read in this book.

Darius the Great is Not Okay. See, Sophie! I finally read it!

  1. Someone who hates Snape just as much as I do! Finally! Thank you! I really disliked him when I first read the series and then when I got on the Harry Potter internet fandom people were forgiving him and I was like…excuse me?? I was just never on board with his redemption because he was BITTER AF and would take it out on children and terrify them.
Half-Blood Prince is my favorite in the series tho. I loved to read the character’s development, Tom Riddle’s story, and the whole teenage angst because that’s who I am as a person. But it was just fun.
    Great post, Emma!

  2. I still need to read Fantastic Beasts but I absolutely agree with you about rewriting it as a novel. The whole reason that I still need to read it is because I kept putting it off as it was a play instead. Then when I finally gave in and borrowed it from the library I was ill . I so need to read Wrath and the Dawn sometime. And Secret Circle is one of the classics that I most want to read (: I’m nervous about Kingdom Of Ash now 😂 I do so want to reread and finish that series soon though. And I really enjoyed the short story collection (: I read it first I think but I’m going to reread that along with the rest of the series.

      1. Ooh thanks for letting me know (: I’m pretty sure I already have it as an ebook though so I definitely will read it soon. Hopefully I’ll enjoy The Beautiful and instantly want to get on with the authors other books too (:

  3. Deciding what to burn, rewrite and reread would be hard, haha!! I watched Me, Earl and the Dying girl and I didn’t really enjoyed but I liked the filming style so it was well made but I wasn’t attached to the story.
Also I’ve watched The Martian (apparently I don’t read books 😂) and I was surprised by how funny it was, the humour felt very natural which I loved!!
I’ve never read A Court of Frost and Starlight and I’m slightly reluctant to do tbh!! But an full fleshed out book for Fantastic Beasts would be amazing!! And you have brought back all the Sam feels with Assassin’s blade– let me just go and cry now!!
Aww… Darius the Great is not okay!! *heart eyes* It is a wonderfully diverse book and I’m so glad you read it!! ❤

    1. I found that with the book too, I never quite got into it :/
I haven’t actually watched the Martian yet, I really need to!
Ahhhh let me cry with you!!
Me too! I loved it so much, and am sad I didn’t have time for a review 😦
